Infectious, autoimmune and toxic diseases of the liver lead to the generation of free radical reactive oxygen species in the mitochondria of liver cells, an increase in cellular inflammation, steatosis or “fatty liver” which is the abnormal accumulation of lipids inside the cells of the liver, cell membrane and interior organelle membrane damage resulting in loss of membrane integrity, fluidity and function, membrane phospholipid translocation, and the activation of the cellular transcription factor NFkappaB.  All of these metabolic imbalances combine to cause a slow but persistent accumulation of scar tissue (fibrosis or cirrhosis) in the spaces of the liver.

Our liver support protocol is designed to mitigate the damage caused by immune attack on the liver and eliminate the triggers and stop the progression of fibrosis or cirrhosis in the liver.

Antifibrotic therapy

  • Reduce chronic inflammation by increasing glutathione and antioxidants
  • Reduce KF-kB activation, stellate cell activation and myoblast formation
  • Increase cell membrane fluidity

Antioxidants – support Glutathione and antioxidants

  1. Glutathione – liposomal oral
  2. Glutathione IV –
  3. ALA 500mg to 1000mg daily, liposomal oral
  4. ALA IV – 40-320mg (<150#), 80-400mg (150-200#), 150-600mg (>200#)
  5. Benfotiamine (fat soluble B1)
  6. ENADA 10mg 2x/day
  7. NAC 500mg 1-2 2-3x/day
  8. L-glutamine, L-Glutamate, Glycine
  9. Curcumin
  10. Milk thistle
  11. Vitamin C (As Ascorbic Acid & Ascorbyl Palmitate)
  12. Selenium

Anti-Inflammatory – reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, block fibrosis

  1. Curcumin
  2. Pomegranate
  3. Green Tea extract
  4. Resveratrol / pterostilbene
  5. Various fruit extracts – flavonoids

Stabilize and repair cell membranes

  1. Polyenylphosphatidylcholine
  2. NT Energy Factor

In cases of fatty liver we also want to improve metabolism, especially how well insulin controls glucose.  This means treating like one would for diabetes using agents that sensitize the body to insulin so it works better.

  1. Plant based and low-allergenic diabetic diet
  2. Berberine
  3. Cinnamon extract
  4. Gymnema
  5. Rx Metformin
