Hormone Replacement Therapy after Breast Cancer

The following handout is a collection of abstracts from research looking into whether taking HRT after treatment for breast cancer increases the risk of recurrence.  We treat many patients after they have treated breast cancer and this is part of the informed decision making process.

The confusing part of hormone sensitive cancers is that the hormone that fuels or “propagates” the growth is not necessarily what “initiates” the cancer in the first place.  There is more to this than meets the eye, but simply stated the use of bioidentical hormones does not increase the risk of cancer.
